Sciatic pain radiates from the lower back through the hip, down the back of the leg, sometimes all the way to the foot. For many of our Frisco and Allen guests, it starts after a long drive, a stretch of desk-work, pregnancy, or lifting something awkwardly — and settles into a nagging daily companion. Our Sciatica Massage targets the muscular drivers of sciatic nerve compression: the piriformis, deep glutes, quadratus lumborum, and the hamstring attachment at the sit bone. Sixty minutes, two therapists trained in this specific protocol at each location.
What Is Sciatica?
Sciatica isn’t a diagnosis on its own — it’s a symptom pattern caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body. The root cause is usually one of two things: muscular (the piriformis muscle in the deep hip tightens and pinches the nerve as it passes underneath — “piriformis syndrome”) or discogenic (a bulging or herniated lumbar disc pressing on the nerve root as it exits the spine).
Massage is highly effective for the muscular drivers of sciatic pain and for the compensatory tension that any sciatic flare-up creates — the guarded gluteals, hiked hip, shortened hamstrings, and overworked lower back on the opposite side. If your sciatica is discogenic in origin, massage still helps with the surrounding muscular tension, but should be paired with care from a physician or physical therapist.
Our Proven Sciatica Massage Techniques
- Side-lying piriformis release. The most effective position for reaching the piriformis directly. Sustained compression and cross-fiber work where the nerve crosses the muscle.
- Deep glute and QL work. Trigger-point release in the gluteus medius, minimus, and the quadratus lumborum — the three usual compensators.
- Hamstring attachment release. Soft-tissue work at the ischial tuberosity (sit bone) where the hamstrings anchor, often referred as sciatic-like pain.
- Pressure dialed to your tolerance. We check in at the first depth change. Pain-free is not the goal — productive discomfort is, and we never push into guarding.
- Series over single sessions. Chronic sciatica responds best to a 3–4 session series, 7–10 days apart. One session helps; a series resolves.
Why Choose Relax Myora Spa?
Our therapists train in-house with William Tsung in the specific sequencing for sciatic presentations — which muscles to release in what order, and when to defer to a physician. Both Frisco and Allen locations have therapists who book this service regularly, which means pattern recognition, not experimentation. We’ll also ask what your doctor, chiropractor, or PT has told you if you’ve already been evaluated, and respect any precautions they’ve flagged.
Key Benefits of Sciatica Massage
- Significant pain reduction in muscular (piriformis-driven) sciatica
- Reduced guarding and improved walking gait
- Restored hip rotation and lumbar mobility
- Better sleep — sciatica often worsens at night, and settled muscles mean settled sleep
- Compounding results across a short series (typically 3–4 sessions)
